The Grammy Awards

So I just watched the Grammy's last night and like usual, it was sub-par. Don't get me wrong; there were some very cool musical acts. For example, Paul McCartney with Dave Grohl on the drums playing the Beatle's classic, "I Saw Her Standing There," Adele with Sugarland singing eachother's songs (neither of which I had heard of prior to this, but each of them has one new fan for sure), Carrie Underwood singing her hit, "Last Name," Stevie Wonder (sans Jonas Brothers) at the end of the show, Justin Timberlake with Al Green singing a few of Al's tunes, as well as a very low-key intimate blues jam dedicated to Bo Diddley between B.B. King, Keith Urban, John Mayer and Buddy Guy. Other than those acts, I wasn't too crazy about them, whether they were confusing, awkward, or I'm just not a fan of their music. For instance, with Coldplay, had Jay-Z not butted in and rapped over "Lost" I would've been all set. Plus, I'm not crazy about Chris Martin to begin with, though the album and his music are great in my opinion (yeah, I know the whole "You know how I know you're gay... thing). The one that stood out in my eyes though as surpreme awesomeness was Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead playing "15 Steps" with the USC marching band backing them up on drums. Very cool rendition if I say so myself, but you're more than welcome to judge by checking it out below.

I think that everyone that won deserved to win, though I'm not sure exactly why "The Carter III" by Lil' Wayne was so great. I'm not a fan of him to begin with, nor have I heard more than two of his songs, so it's unfair for me to say whether or not he should have won. One of the big stand out's at the Grammy's was Robert Plant and Allison Krauss. Considering them being nominated a few times and winning two awards, everyone praising the album, and them performing one of the songs from the album that turned out really badass, I'm really anxious to hear the album in its entirety.

Two acts that I couldn't focus on were the Miley Cyrus/Taylor Swift duet and the "Rap Pack" with collective effort of M.I.A., T.I., Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, & Kanye West. With the Miley/Taylor thing, it was just awkward to see them sing with eachother because it seemed they were vying to see who's the better performer, which was more obvious with Miley's belting and held notes. After the song, they exchanged perhaps one of the most uncomfortable looking high-fives I have ever seen in years (little fact: A guy named Tex told me the other day that to make a superior high-five, stare at the other person's elbow. I don't know why, but it seems to work excellently! Thanks Tex!). Also, as some of you may or may not know, I'm not particularly crazy about rap, so I wasn't into the whole "Rap Pack" thing. It also didn't help too much that M.I.A. who was complete preggers was trying to do her hit "Paper Planes" while wobbling around with a dress that made her look like a cow standing on it's hind legs. I couldn't focus on any of the music because I honestly thought that at any second, water would just splash out from between her legs and she'd go into labor right there in the middle of the show. Also, if you look carefully at the 23 second mark in the video below, you can see her lip sync the words just before she turns.

Don't worry, don't worry. I didn't forget about what may have been the most surprising/amazing moment of the show in many teenagers eyes: Blink-182. For those that didn't watch the show, Mark, Tom and Travis got up on stage together to announce that they are back together and getting ready to both tour and get in the studio to record a new album.

If you have any questions about who won what, who performed, etc., I have a link posted at the bottom

Hopefully these pictures help make it make more sense!
